Tradition has it that St. James the Less was beaten to death with a fuller's club. The instrument in the hands of the man in red could therefore be a club, although one might argue that it resembles a sword.
The left side of the window is obscured in this photograph; what is just visible seems to be the hand of a second person wielding a club with a globe-shaped top.

The words placed above the saint's body are jacobus minor, "James the Less."
